Music & Lyrics
The lead singer of U2, Bono was born Paul David Hewson in Dublin. He met The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton at school, and in 1978 U2 was formed. Acknowledged as innovators, U2 as a live act has always pushed the parameters of what was theatrically possible to communicate with their audience; they have toured the globe countless times, released 14 studio albums, sold over 170 million albums and won numerous awards, including 22 Grammys.® Bono and The Edge have also received 4 Golden Globe® nominations including a win for "The Hands that Built America" from Gangs of New York, which was also nominated for an Academy Award, Best Original Song. Bono is a long-time activist in the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa. He is the cofounder of ONE, an advocacy and campaigning organization dedicated to fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease; as well as Product (RED) which has an ongoing relationship with global brands that sell (RED) products to create a sustainable income stream directly for The Global Fund. Bono has received a number of awards, including the Legion D'Honneur in 2003, Time Magazine's Person of the Year in 2005, and an honorary British knighthood in 2007. Bono lives in Dublin with his wife and children.

Guitarist with U2, The Edge was born David Howell Evans in east London. A year later, he and his family moved to Malahide, Co. Dublin, where he attended Mount Temple School and met Larry Mullen, Bono, and Adam Clayton. In 1978 U2 was formed. Described as one of the most influential guitar players of his generation, Edge's crystalline minimalist guitar playing is the hallmark of U2's music, and one of the most original and distinctive guitar styles in rock and roll history. Acknowledged as one of the best live acts in the world, U2 have toured the globe countless times, have released 14 studio albums and won numerous awards, including 22 Grammys®. One of the principle songwriters of U2, The Edge has also written extensively for other projects, often in collaboration with Bono, including music for movies (Captive, Gangs of New York and GoldenEye); for animation (The “Batman” TV series); and for the stage (A Clockwork Orange by the Royal Shakespeare Company). Marked out by their politics from the beginning, U2 were awarded Amnesty International's Ambassador of Conscience Award in 2006. In 2005, The Edge co-founded Music Rising, a charity initiative which provides musical instruments for the musicians, schools and churches of the Gulf Region. The Edge lives in Dublin with his wife and children.

In 1998, Taymor became the first woman to win the Tony® Award for Best Direction of a Musical, and also won a Tony® for Best Costumes, for her groundbreaking production of The Lion King. The musical has won three Molière Awards including Best Musical and Best Costumes, garnered Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League awards for Taymor's direction, and myriad awards for her original costume, mask and puppet designs. Taymor made her Broadway debut in 1996 with Juan Darién: A Carnival Mass, nominated for five Tony® Awards. Other theatre work includes The Green Bird, Titus Andronicus, The Tempest, The Taming of the Shrew, The Transposed Heads and Liberty's Taken. Taymor's feature film directorial debut, Titus, starred Anthony Hopkins, Jessica Lange and Alan Cumming. In 2002, her biographical film Frida, starring Salma Hayek and Alfred Molina, earned six Academy Award® nominations, winning two. She took on the music of the Beatles, and earned a Golden Globe® nomination for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, in Across the Universe. Julie's next film, The Tempest, will have its North American premiere at the 48th New York Film Festival in October 2010, following a world premiere at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. Taymor's visually exhilarating adaptation of the William Shakespeare play features an all-star cast including Helen Mirren, Russell Brand, Djimon Hounsou and Alfred Molina, and will be released by Touchstone Pictures on December 10. Beyond the theatre and screen, Taymor has directed five operas internationally including Oedipus Rex with Jessye Norman, for which she earned the International Classical Music Award for Best Opera Production. A subsequent film version premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won her an Emmy® award. Taymor also directed Salome´, The Flying Dutchman, Die Zauberflöte (which has been in repertory at The Met for six years), The Magic Flute (the abridged English version of Die Zauberflöte, which inaugurated a new PBS series entitled “Great Performances at The Met”) and Elliot Goldenthal's Grendel. Taymor is a 1991 recipient of the MacArthur "genius" Fellowship.

Weekly Best Play Award). Glen has also collaborated with Frank London (of the Klezmatics) on two new musicals: On Words and Onwards, and Loewe-Award winner A Night In The Old Marketplace. In television, Glen has won two Emmys® (twelve nominations), and has written over 200 episodes for children's television series including "Arthur," “Curious George,” and "Fetch w/ Ruff Ruffman." Peter Parker
Reeve Carney stars as the young prince Ferdinand in Julie Taymor's upcoming film adaptation of The Tempest and also starred in the film version of the acclaimed novel Snow Falling on Cedars. A veteran of the music world, Reeve recorded an album with Peter, Paul and Mary at the age of 8 and was asked a few years later by Michael Jackson to sing on one of the tracks of HIStory. Now, Reeve is the lead singer and lead guitarist of CARNEY, the up and coming rock band that recently toured North America. In CARNEY, Reeve is accompanied by his brother Zane who shares lead guitar in the band, Aiden Moore on bass, and Jon Epcar on the drums. CARNEY'S newest single "Love Me Chase Me" was released this summer and the band's first full length album, entitled "Mr. Green", was released in May 2010 on DAS Label/Interscope. Jenn is best known for her performance in the original cast of the critically acclaimed, Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway production Next to Normal which earned her a 2009 Tony Award Nomination at age 17. Two years prior she made her Broadway debut in the original cast of Spring Awakening. TV credits include an appearance on the CW11 series “Gossip Girl.” Impossible without Dad, Mom, Lizard, Pat, Stimey, Adam, and Meghann.

Teresa Victoria Carpio, better known as T.V., grew up in Hong Kong with her mother, Teresa Carpio, a household name as a singer and entertainer in Asia. She danced in music videos for Bruce Springsteen and Whitney Houston, which led to parts on television's "Law and Order" and "The Jury". Then as an alto soprano she sang with the Hong Kong Philharmonic in her mother's acclaimed Diva concerts. From there she landed the role of Gail in Spike Lee's She Hate Me, and the role of Angela in Lee's Sucker Free City for Showtime. She auditioned for Julie Taymor's acclaimed feature film, Across The Universe and was cast as Prudence. This was followed by playing Alexi Darling in Rent on Broadway. Recently she landed the role of Valerie in the upcoming Universal Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper starrer The Dark Fields, directed by Neil Burger.

Mat Devine was born and raised in Connecticut, moving to Chicago to gain a BFA in film from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. There he formed the seminal alternative rock band, Kill Hannah, taking on the roles of lead singer and principle songwriter. Mat signed to Atlantic Records in 2003 at which time the band began touring America, Canada, UK and Europe behind 4 consecutive albums. Over the greater part of 7 years Mat has performed over 1000 concerts on stage, radio and television worldwide. His songs have been featured in numerous films, video games and television shows. Mat also writes the wildly popular blog for Fuse TV known as the Raccoon Society. Although no stranger to the concert stage, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark is his Broadway debut.

Matthew James Thomas, 22, trained at Sylvia Young and Italia Conti London. He is well known in the UK for his lead role in the TV series "Britannia High". Recently, Matthew filmed roles in TV dramas "Casualty" and "Midsomer Murders" and the lead in independent short film Possession. At 12, he appeared in movies Billy Elliot (as Simon, Billy's audition rival) and About a Boy, and many TV shows, including "Doctors", "Bad Girls" and "Wonderful You". A year later he played the title role in Stephen Poliakoff's The Lost Prince, alongside Miranda Richardson and Tom Hollander. Favorite theatre roles include Dorian in 2009's Dorian Gray at the Leicester Square Theatre; Schlomo in the West End's Fame revival and Wayne in Popcorn at the Landor Fringe. Other West End credits include Oliver! and the original production of Whistle Down the Wind. Matthew is an accomplished singer, songwriter and musician and hopes to release his debut album shortly.

Emmanuel Brown was born and raised in S. Florida and has always had an interest in the arts from an early age. He started out in the martial arts and eventually went on to become a State, National, and World champion by the age of 18. The discipline he achieved in the martial arts helped him to excel in the performing arts throughout his youth and he eventually earned his BFA in Acting from the University of Florida, where he also studied dance. Since moving to NY he has worked professionally as an actor, dancer, martial artist, choreographer and gymnast on stage and screen. He is proud for SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark to be his Broadway debut. He would like to thank God, his family and friends for their continued love and support.

Erin Elliott is a choreographer, dancer, actress, and stunt woman. She has worked with Julie Taymor on the opera Grendel and the film Across the Universe. Erin also helped create Cirque de Soleil's "KA", directed by Robert Lepage, and "Love", directed by Dominic Champagne. She has worked with choreographer Daniel Ezralow on many projects including Across the Universe, Why B, Amici, and Tosca with Lucio Dalla. Recently, she created and performed "Outlined in Black" for Drop Dance Co. and received rave reviews at the Edinburg Festival. She has been creating and performing an ongoing cabaret, "Pardon Monsieur", with the Collin Bickley Band. Before moving to LA, Erin performed in the musical Notre Dame de Paris, directed by Gilles Maheu, and was a soloist with MOMIX for many years. She helped create the popular evening-length works Passion, Baseball and Momix in Orbit, in which she choreographed and performed "Orbit".

Craig Henningsen is announced as "the future of martial arts" by the Emmy® Award-winning Discovery Channel documentary XMA. A three-time ESPN / AKA Warrior Cup / World Champion, Craig began his training at Sharkey's Karate in Naperville, Illinois. He placed Top 5 on "America's Got Talent," being a member of team Sideswipe, which after toured internationally, supporting US Armed Forces and performing on Britney Spears' "Circus" Tour. Catching the eye of Jackie Chan's manager, Craig relocated to L.A., signing a movie deal with New Line Cinema, followed by his first film, Feast. TV co-stars include "No Ordinary Family," "Ghosts/Aliens," and BBC's "The Slammer;" starred in Pepsi campaign, and modeled for Puma. Craig is blessed to mark SPIDER-MAN as his Broadway debut, and thrilled to work with this magical creative team and amazing cast. Love to Sensei, Matt, Karate Family, Dad, Mom, Christian & Elenora.

Ayo Janeen Jackson received her B.F.A. from the North Carolina School of the Arts. She is a former member of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Ballet Preljocaj. Ms. Jackson received a Princess Grace Award in 2004 and a Princess Grace Foundation Special Project Grant in 2006. Ari Loeb, from California, has performed in 300 cities worldwide, including 3,000 concerts with Cirque du Soleil, Pilobolus and Momix. In Italy, Ari was featured on the television smash "Amici" with Daniel Ezralow, and also as Ezralow's assistant as choreographer of the 2010 Sanremo Song Festival, the 2007 Academy Awards, and "Blue Peter" in London. Ari has choreographed for Cirkus, Djurgarden in Stockholm, and various commercials in Spain, Canada, the U.S. and Bermuda. SPIDER-MAN is Ari's Broadway debut. He thanks his mother.

Natalie Lomonte is a native Texan who began dancing in the womb. After her studies at Marymount Manhattan College, she toured extensively with Momix, Pilobolus and Parsons Dance. Most recently she performed with Liza Minnelli in the movie Sex and the City 2. Natalie is thrilled and very proud to be making her Broadway debut in this incredible production.

America has performed with Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, No Doubt, Elton John, Shakira, Nelly, Destiny's Child, Alanis Morisette, and Stevie Wonder. America starred in Paramount Television's "Soluna" pilot, and on "How I Met Your Mother", "Jake in Progress", "The Brothers Garcia", "Cuts", "General Hospital", and "House". Her film credits include The Thirst, Blood Wars, Love Shack, The Last Resort, Friday the 13th, Transformers 2, Bitch Slap, and Neighbor. Born in Madrid, Spain and raised in Portsmouth, NH, Christopher has been dancing around the world for 2 decades. He has performed and been featured with such renowned companies as Houston Ballet, Ballet New England, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Les ballet jazz du Montreal. Also working with such great choreographers as Ohad Naharin, Jiri Kylian, Christopher Bruce, Lar Lubovitch, Aszure Barton, Twyla Tharp and Daniel Ezralow. His stage credits include the Broadway tour of Movin' Out, and the original North American cast of Dirty Dancing. He was part of the core creative dance crew on his first project with Julie Taymor, Across the Universe, where he also landed a featured role as a dorm buddy singing "A Little Help From My Friends". He has worked with Daniel Ezralow on many projects since and is truly honored to be part of this new collaboration with the Across team. All his love and thanks to his family for their support.
